Remove a cap seal (package).
Detach the package (called a cap seal) attached to the bottle head first. Since it is a package made of aluminum, take care not to break the finger. |
| At this moment, it can be cut out smoothly if you use a device called a foil cutter. The foil cutter is an important device second to an opener when a wine bottle is opened. A colorful one is commercially marketed at \1,000 or so. |

Next, selecting an opener. Varied shapes of openers are on the market in the world, and each of them is contrived so as to be able to pull a cork stopper out well. It is generally said that a lever-type opener like a sommelier knife helps you open a bottle more successfully than a T-shaped, low-priced opener. The sommelier knife is a combination of a knife to cut out a cap seal and a lever-type opener, and some are of professional spec which costs a few tens of thousands of yen for a high-priced one. How joyful it is to collect beautiful openers like decorations or find an easy-to-use one! |

(1) Stick the center of an opener into the center of cork. |
 |

(2) Screw the opener to about two thirds of the cork taking care that the tip of the opener won't jut from the lower end of the cork. |
 |
(3) When the opener stuck in the cork, pull the former upright to jut out the
latter by about a third. Thereafter turn the opener twice or three times
to stick it deep into the cork. |

(4) Pull the cork further, and when it juts out almost whole...... |

(5) Pull the cork out completely in a manner of twisting it slightly. |
 |

How's the result? Could you pull it out smoothly? If you use Uchiyama's cork stopper, you could pull it out smoothly as it does not break halfway or collapse. |
